Which Way Forward, Ospoly?

In 2019, as I stepped foot on the soil of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, for my Higher National Diploma, I felt like the happiest guy on earth. It was a homecoming for me to experience education in my state. The beautiful campus entrance gave me goosebumps, and the motto "Excellence In Character and Technology" reignited my spirit of determination. I told myself I wanted to do things differently here. Like every new student, I started my journey strongly, focusing on what mattered and ignoring what didn't. I adapted to every situation along the way. The turning point came during my first Continuous Assessment Test. I could hear a voice loudly within the four walls of PLT1: 'If you don't have the handout, you should leave the class,' Oga said. I couldn't immediately figure out what was going on. We all moved out, and surprisingly, the majority were students who hadn't completed their National Diploma at OSPOLY. It was strange! I kept laughing, but befo...

Wilderness Of Joy

Wilderness Of Joy Mixed emotions managing thoughts, The good and bad days in our imagination, In the wilderness of dreams, Comes the hope for joy. Blind pets working in the dark, Lightning of joy sparking at night, In the wilderness of careers, Comes the hope for success. Walking down the street of hope, Two friends look like kings in their homes, In the wilderness of hope, Comes the imagination for hope. Abidoye Thomas 09/03/2024 Nigeria Review of "Wilderness Of Joy" by Abidoye Thomas: "Abidoye Thomas' poem 'Wilderness Of Joy' beautifully captures the essence of mixed emotions and the highs and lows of life's journey. Through vivid imagery and thoughtful metaphors, the poet navigates the complexities of hope, success, and imagination.  The contrasting elements of light and darkness, dreams and reality, create a poetic landscape that resonates with the reader.  The poem's simplicity and depth make it a compelling reflection on the human experience a...

Women: Planet Assets

Women are the pathfinders of happiness, A guiding light in the wilderness of hope. Their absence in the palace Signals a misbalance. They are creatures with pure hearts, Born like art. Adorned with a shiny armor And a golden demeanor. They are mothers to their children, And wives to their husbands, Guides and mentors to their children, A pillar of support to their husbands. Women are likened to gold, A shining star in the world, Protectors in times of strife, Humans endowed with a soft heart. They are defenders of the family, Even in times of fear. Architects of a healthy home, Master planners in Rome. They are planetary assets, Making our world a better place, A virtuous treasure, A greater asset. Note: Thomas Abidoye, From Nigeria, is a poet, journalist with over 7 years of working experience covering politics, entertainment, economy, crime, and general news.

TRIBUTE TO MY FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND STREET BROTHERS WHO HAVE PASSED AWAY

TRIBUTE TO MY FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND STREET BROTHERS WHO HAVE PASSED AWAY. Some memories cannot be easily forgotten; I dearly miss the good times I had with wonderful people who are now laid to rest. Truly, death is inevitable, but why does Alimitu (death) fail to recognize the impact of good people and spare them to live longer? Growing up in Ejigbo town some years ago, I felt like the good people I was surrounded by would live on forever.  However, many of them have departed from this world, and death has not granted my plea on their behalf. Sadly, most of my street brothers in Lagos State have also fallen victim to this relentless force of death.  Nevertheless, we cannot evade mortality. Looking back, I remember these individuals for their contributions to my personal growth. I thank you all; you are legends and will forever be remembered. May your souls rest in peace. The Attorney General of The Planet (1)

By: Abidoye Ayobami The journey has started. People are ready and alert to learn about the "Attorney General of the Planet.” I take a bow and extend my unreserved recognition to the source and the elders. The journey will be filled with drama and will awaken your conscience with truth. The bomb is going to explode while the judges prepare the case file. The iconic scenario is now set to unveil 'oga patapata,' meaning the main act of the show. It’s a public disgrace to grow without a career, ambitions, focus, mission, and dreams. I ask you, "Why do you live?” When the words "Advanced World" hit me, I will begin to cry like an eight-month-old child looking for breast milk. Perhaps that will heal my emotions at this point in time. Lo and behold! It was just a stressful night for me, dancing like a happy antelope "eworo.” The opportunity to explore the biggest city has arrived. I think Lagos is not part of the zoo where we reside today. "Enu mi ago...

Rape: A Silent Epidemic

By; Okunola Promise                   The term rape originated from the Latin word, rapere (supine stem raptum), "to snatch, to grab, to carry off.  Rape was initially considered a crime only in terms of the property violation of another man.  For instance, ancient Hebrew women who were raped were considered defiled, and stoned to death. The first case of rape was the case of a young girl called Mathura, Mathura was a young orphan tribal girl living with one of her two brithers. The incident is suspected to have taken place on 26th March 1972, she was between 14 and 16years old at that time and the case was an incident of custodial rape in India on 26th March 1972.                      Rape , according to Merriam-Webster dictionary is an unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out by force or under threat of injury against a persons will or with a person ...

Rape

By Akerele Sewa Deborah     Rape, unlawful sexual activity, most often involving sexual intercourse, against the will of the victim through force or the threat of force or with an individual who is incapable of giving legal consent because of minor status, mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness, or deception. In many jurisdictions, the crime of rape has been subsumed under that of sexual assault.  Rape was long considered to be caused by unbridled sexual desire, but it is now understood as a pathological assertion of power over a victim The legal definition of rape has changed substantially since the late 20th century. The traditional definition was narrow with respect to both gender and age; rape was an act of sexual intercourse by a man with a woman against her will. As rape is now understood, a rapist or a victim may be an adult of either gender or a child. Although rape can occur in same-sex intercourse, it is most often committed by a m...

I love This Quote 👉By CHINUA ACHEBE

Naijefate Blog _A man who calls his kinsmen to a feast does not do so to redeem them from starving. They all have food in their own houses. When we gather in the moonlight at village ground, it is not because of the moon. Every man can see it in his own compound. We come together because it is good for kinsmen to do so. Therefore let us continue with the team spirit and enjoy the power of togetherness. Let's smile not because we don't have problems but because we are stronger than the problems_.... Alone I can smile but together we can laugh Alone  I can enjoy but together we can celebrate Alone I can talk but together we can speak Let's promote things that unite us than things that cause disunity Unity is Great Strength Everyone is important according to their own unique purpose.   Never look down on any body unless you are admiring their shoes show people love, depression is killing

Who is Yoruba?

Naijefate Blog When the Awujale of Ijebu Òde said sometimes ago that Ijebu not Yoruba many people thought Kabiesi wasn't right, but Aláàfin Ọ̀yọ quickly went to visit him he even went with danofijo a popular Masquerade of Ọ̀yọ́ town to entertain Awujale, a smart moves by Kabiesi Aláàfin. My late father (Olowoporoku)  always corrected me anytime I refered to myself  a Yoruba  (ṣe ara Ọ̀yọ́ ni ẹ ni) are you from Ọ̀yọ́ town? He will said to me.  Baba told me that Yoruba is the name the Gogobiri (Gambari of the North) called Oyo people, the name became popular during the era of Alaafin Abiodun Adegolu bcos of he's peaceful and long rein, Ọ̀yọ́ people were the  Yorubas proper.  Ẹ̀gbá, Ìjẹ̀bú, Ifẹ̀, Rẹmo, ijesha, Èkìtì, Ondo, Ketu, Ùgbó and Ibini were not part of Yoruba.  We are all connected to Ile Ifẹ that's why we speak same Language but we are not all Yorubas until 1919/1920. The adoption of Yoruba name was part of colonial legacy. Between 1901- 1904 the...

Choose What You Fight.

Naijefate Blog .. I once met a very successful business woman and I asked her to share her secret with me.  She smiled and said to me..  I started succeeding when I started leaving small fights for small fighters.  I stopped fighting those who gossiped about me... I stopped fighting over unnecessary issues with my spouse... I stopped fighting for attention... I stopped fighting to meet up with public expectation... I left such fights for those who have nothing else to fight... “And I started fighting for my vision, my dreams, my ideas and my destiny. Then I started winning big". That was the day I gave up on small fights. Some fights are not worth your time. Fight to make your visions and dreams come alive! Fight the good fight of faith!  Fight for your destiny not for your ego! Entrepreneurs shouldn’t have time for unnecessary fights! Visionaries don’t cluster their mind with nonsense bickering! Always ask, what is this fight adding to my destiny, my goal, my progre...

OSPOLYDECIDES2021: DammyGold,Bengee; I Know The Winner

#OSPOLYDECIDES: Ospoly Student Politics By: Ayobami Abidoye Me: Hmmm, the search has begun in ospoly SuGs,  What battled me most is how will ospolites vote for the competent leaders. Mate: AYOBAMI 'kinni show' every aspirant were already shaking the table, it's only during election like this every aspirant become professor, masters every beat of English grammar to convince electorate. Student Union Governments were established in various institutions of higher learning to promote unity, orderliness and smooth relationship between students, school authorities and the state or Federal Government. It is unfortunate that most SUGs in Nigerian Polytechnics do not know the key objectives for which they were established.  This is why some student governments see the freedom they enjoy as an opportunity to cause mayhem and anarchy in their institutions. It is true that there are legitimate issues  of poor service and maladministration for which students should feel genuine...

AYEKOOTO: The Journey I Will Not Embark On Again (NYSC dreams)

SERIES A (Dairy of a Final Year Student of The Osun State Polytechnic IREE) By: Abidoye Thomas Ayobami It’s final year- and I think have finally got the hang of this whole school things for awhile. You know what time you have to be at the library if you actually want a decent seat , you know which lectures are safe to miss (according to some of my friends, all of them), and you know the ins and outs of most of the buildings (apart from Motion Ground and Rectors Office), because you still can’t work out how to actually leave when the lecturer tells you to all leave from the back). You’re feeling pretty cool and confident about the whole thing. Until i walk into my second semester of the last session in OSPOLY campus, and i realise- this will be my last first semester of the Polytechnic. Education. It should be noted that Until you start reflecting on your boring days with your pals, only to realise that this was likely to be the last ever full school memories that you will ever have. Th...

I Wept After Reading This Judge's Sentence On A 15 Year Old Boy

... _Very Thought Provoking_ This was a fifteen year old boy.... He was caught stealing bread from a store. On trying to escape from the hold of the guard, a shelf of the store was also broken. *The judge heard the crime and asked the boy, “Did you really steal something, a loaf of bread and cheese?”* The boy responded by looking down.;- “Yes.” Judge: - “Why?” Boy: - “I needed it.” Judge: - “Couldn't you have bought?” Boy: - “There was no money.” Judge: - “Take it from the family.” Boy: - “There is only a mother in the house. Sick and unemployed, Bread and Cheese were also stolen for the same.” Judge: - “You don't do anything?” Boy: - “Used to wash a car. When I took a day off to take care of my mother, I was fired.” Judge: - “Don’t you ask someone for help?” Boy: - “Had left the house since morning, went to about fifty (50) people, but no help; so, I decided to take this step at the very end.” When the arguments ended, the judge began to pronounce the verdict; ... “the theft a...

Ospoly New World, The Future

Naijefate Blog    By; Ayobami Thomas Abidoye We live in a great time where science and technology has made virtually everything possible. Accessing information and entertainment is like picking up something from the ground With the invention of cell phones and Internet you could be anywhere in the world with just a click. The invention of all these wonderful discoveries has served us with a lot of benefits but meanwhile it is causing damage to our ability to concentrate on the real world.  These inventories has made us neglect a lot of things we ought to be doing or have done.  For instance, a person could spend the whole day operating a computer or phone while neglecting other important tasks he/she ought to do or should have done. Most times we tend to focus too much attention on the Internet. I am not saying the Internet is bad (of course it's the best thing that has happened to human over the decades) but sometimes they are the major cause of distraction to our r...
